Eli Wilner & Company is delighted to have donated a frame to the Grolier Club to surround their new acquisition, Study for ‘Jean Grolier in the house of Aldus Manutius’ by François Flameng (1856-1923). The painting is the study for a much larger painting of the same scene that is in the Grolier Club.

Club member Anne Hoy generously purchased the painting and gifted it to The Grolier Club. Wilner’s choice of frame was based on the Italian Renaissance scene depicted. The simple carved and gilded Italian cassetta frame style dates to the Renaissance and is accented by a delicate punchwork pattern on the frieze.

The Grolier Club

The Grolier Club is a society of bibliophiles, founded in New York City in January, 1884, the oldest such club in North America. The club is named after Jean Grolier de Servières, Viscount d’Aguisy, Treasurer General of France, whose library was famous; his motto, “Io. Grolierii et amicorum” [of or belonging to Jean Grolier and his friends], suggested his generosity in sharing books. The Club’s stated objective is “the literary study of the arts pertaining to the production of books, including the occasional publication of books designed to illustrate, promote and encourage these arts; and the acquisition, furnishing and maintenance of a suitable club building for the safekeeping of its property, wherein meetings, lectures and exhibitions shall take place from time to time… .”

The Grolier Club maintains a research library specializing in books, bibliography and bibliophily, printing (especially the history of printing and examples of fine printing), binding, illustration and bookselling.

Eli Wilner is proud to offer our latest version of our eWilner Frames app for the iPhone and iPad. Last year we first introduced an application for framing digital photos on Apple iPhone and iPad devices. The app allows users to email, Twitter, send to Facebook or print their “photo masterpieces” framed with any of more than 100 styles in high resolution, based on only the very best frames from our past and present inventory. Since the first release of the eWilner Frames app last year, we have received some excellent feedback and have heard a lot of suggestions from users, incorporating them into this updated release of the app. Beyond streamlining and increasing overall user friendliness, we’ve added some really cool features, such as a “Shuffle” button that selects a new frame at random each time it is pressed – a great way to quickly experiment with different styles during those moments of artistic inspiration! We are continually working to update and improve our app so that we might offer the best product we can and as always, we invite you to email us with your feedback at info@EliWilner.com .

I began exploring digital photo frames in late 2009 as a way to share my love of framing with the entire world. These frames truly are treasures; what better way to show people how beautiful they really are than by letting them see firsthand how an exquisite frame can transform an image – in this case using their own photos! We’ve spent a lot of time and energy working to deliver a truly high quality app that is not only easy and fun to use, but also creates meaningful keepsakes that can easily be shared with friends and family.

EGSCF provides health care, mental health screenings, counseling, and ongoing recreational activities for New York City children in foster care. They ensure that every child is placed in a home where they will be able to succeed and be loved. EGSCF also makes sure that children have an ongoing relationship with their birth parents even if they aren’t in their care. In addition to all this support, they also created a 24 hour hotline for foster parents for when they are faced with foster care challenges. The largest goal for EGSCF is to do whatever it is possible to keep a family unit together.
